The Zorin team shipped Zorin OS 18.1 on 15 April 2026, the first update to the 18 series and one that lands six months after Zorin OS 18. This is a maintenance release: it adds polish, a few new features and wider hardware support without touching the promise that made the system famous, which is being the easiest Linux for people moving over from Windows or macOS.
Key new features
- Linux kernel 6.17, with better driver support for NVIDIA cards, Intel Xe3 graphics, AMD hybrid GPUs, Lenovo and Samsung laptops, Apple input devices, and gaming handhelds.
- App alternatives database expanded by over 40%: the system now recognises more than 240 installers of popular Windows programs and points you to the equivalent native Linux alternative, which smooths the switch even further.
- Better window tiling, with new options to bring several tiled windows to the front at once, reorder layouts, and tidier edge tiling.
- LibreOffice 26.2 out of the box, with better Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 compatibility, Markdown support, and performance improvements.
- Right-to-left (RTL) language support: the panel now displays correctly in Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, and other right-to-left scripts.
- The Lite edition is back, built on the XFCE 4.20 desktop and aimed at reviving older computers, while the standard edition stays on GNOME.
What is Zorin OS?
Zorin OS is an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution built so anyone can use Linux with almost no learning curve. Its desktop mimics the look and feel of Windows or macOS, and its software catalogue, app manager and migration tools are all aimed at people taking their first steps away from commercial systems. It fits home users just as well as schools and businesses that want to modernise their machines without paying for licences.
If you already run it, you can upgrade through the Software Updater, and even people coming from Zorin OS 17 can make the jump without erasing their files. Version 18.1 gets updates and security patches until June 2029, a solid foundation if you are thinking about long-term deployments.
You can find all the details and downloads on its Zorin OS page on LinuxGratis.
