The KDE Project has released KDE Plasma 6.7.1, the first maintenance update to the Plasma 6.7 series that shipped last week. This is an initial batch of bug and regression fixes, so don’t expect new features here. The point is to stabilize what you already have.
The most talked-about fix involves Discover, the graphical package manager. This release fixes one of the most common ways Discover crashed on distributions using the rpm-ostree packaging technology, such as Fedora Kinoite. If you run one of those atomic distros and Discover kept crashing on you, this is the update you want.
The Kickoff application launcher gets two fixes. One regression caused it to resize itself inappropriately while showing search results right after being added to a panel. The other made it lose its hover effect for category list items when the non-default “Switch sidebar categories when hovering over them” setting was enabled.
In the KWin compositor, the team fixed a crash that happened when logging into the system and an app asked for an invalid color format.
The rest of the changes spread fixes across several places:
- A smooth blend effect when switching between global themes.
- The game controller input plugin is now disabled by default, due to issues reported by users.
- Two issues related to clipboard syncing in remote desktop sessions.
- A regression that left the network details invisible on the Networks widget.
- A problem that could break accented text entry for some keyboard layouts when Plasma’s virtual keyboard was enabled.
- A Task Manager regression that displayed very large numbers of unread items in its badges.
There are also small improvements to Info Center, Milou, Oxygen, Plasma Bigscreen, Plasma System Monitor, Plasma NetworkManager (plasma-nm), Spectacle, and the new Union style engine. Check the official changelog for the full list.
As a reminder, Plasma 6.7 landed the week before with features like a revamped Plasma Bigscreen mode, per-screen virtual desktops, a full-featured print queue viewer app, a global push-to-talk function, Wayland session restore, the “multi-GPU swapchain” feature for Vulkan, and the Air theme back from KDE 4.
Who should update? Anyone already running Plasma 6.7, and especially Fedora Kinoite users or anyone on an rpm-ostree distro because of the Discover fix. The update will reach distribution repositories gradually for those shipping the 6.7 series, with rolling-release distros getting it first.
